Wood Wick Wisdom: How to Get the Best Burn From Your Candles
There’s something special about lighting a candle and watching a soft wooden flame crackle to life—like a peaceful campfire in a jar. At Georgia Pines Candle Co., we pour each candle with love and purpose using our natural coconut-soy wax and signature wood wicks.
But to enjoy the best burn possible, a little care goes a long way. Here's how to get the most out of your wood wick candle:
🔥 1. Let It Burn to the Edges the First Time
Your first burn is the most important! Let the melted wax pool all the way to the edges of the jar—this prevents tunneling and ensures even burning in the future.
🕯️ Plan to burn your candle for 2–3 hours the first time.
✂️ 2. Trim That Wick
Wood wicks need to be kept short for a clean, even burn. Before relighting, trim the wick to about 1/8 inch by pinching off the blackened tip or using wick trimmers.
✨ This helps prevent soot, keeps the flame steady, and extends the candle’s life.
💨 3. Burn Smart and Safe
-
Never leave a candle burning unattended
-
Don’t burn for more than 4 hours at a time
-
Keep candles away from fans, vents, pets, and little hands
🕯️ 4. Know When It’s Time to Say Goodbye
When there's about 1/2 inch of wax left, it’s time to stop burning. This protects the container and the surface it’s sitting on.
♻️ Tip: Clean out the jar and repurpose it for matches, cotton rounds, or desk supplies.
